Robinson’s Outdoor Store
Celebrating our 80th Year in Victoria
Gayle and crew return from Nepal
Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Robinson’s Outdoor Store has been a year long adventure for third generation owner Gayle Robinson culminating in a recently completed, life changing, trip to Nepal with 10 other trekkers and guide Mick Bromley. It’s an adventure that Robinson shared in another installment of the Robinson’s Adventure Series, a slideshow and presentation that was held at the store on November 25th and December 1st with over 250 people in attendance for the two shows.
From the moment of arrival in Kathmandu on October 9 to the day of their departure on October 31, the group was in awe and somewhat humbled by the world that unfolded before them. From visiting an orphanage where they were treated like celebrities, to coming to understand the profound aspects of the Buddhist religion and trekking for hours up steep and treacherous terrain with a harsh but incredibly beautiful landscape worthy of photographing at every turn, it was truly an inspiring trip worthy of sharing.
Many of the treks made in Nepal follow the Annapurna circuit only. The Robinson’s trek also included the villages of Nar and Phu which only recently opened to visitors. Settled within the rock gorges and snow covered mountain passes, the ancient stone villages are home to Tibetan speaking people whose lifestyle has remained virtually unchanged for years. The trekkers crossed two mountain passes, the Kang La Pass at 5300 meters and after Tilicho Base Camp, they visited Tilicho Lake one of the highest lakes in the world, crossing over Tilicho Pass at 5400 meters.
“I would never say the trek was easy, however I will tell everyone that it was incredibly worth the challenge.” said Gayle Robinson. “And I am very excited to share my experiences with anyone and everyone who is interested in adventure travel.”
